Thirty meters south of the plot is a shrubland dominated by Ilex verticillata. An old railroad grade marks the northwest boundary of the plot and impedes drainage. The opening is surrounded by a Picea rubens - Tsuga canadensis - Betula alleghaniensis forest.;Relatively undisturbed. Very attractive Sphagnum peatland with rounded Polytrichum hummocks. The hummocks support a few stunted Picea rubens, shrubs and Osmunda cinnamomea.
Representativeness
This is a small patch bryophyte community. It is uniform and of a decent size to measure for this type. One of the larger stands we have seen.
